FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kiwanian Obtains ServSafe® CertificationTuesday, October 5, 2004 The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Shelbyville was informed today that president Robert Strasser had received his ServSafe® Certification. Strasser obtained the certification by passing a written exam after completing a two day course in food safety. The coursework and exam covered a number of topics relating to the storage, preparation and service of food to prevent food borne illnesses. The Board authorized Strasser to take the course after it was learned that a law which had been enacted by the legislature several years ago requiring any organization providing food service to have a certified person on staff, was to take effect in January. It was determined that the club would sponsor a members participation in the program so that the club could continue its' food service related fundraising and service projects.
